Located in the very heart of “Copper Country” in the town of Miami, Arizona, the Gila County Gem and Mineral Society was founded in 1956 by a small group of individuals who shared a love for rocks and minerals. The Globe-Miami area of Arizona is rich in mining history and continues to be a major source of copper, gold, silver and other mineralogical treasures such as turquoise, azurite, chrysocolla and many other rocks and minerals. Today the society is very active with dozens of members from all over Central Arizona, from the west cost to the Midwest, and as far away as Canada. The first Thursday of each month is our business meeting, which starts at 6:30 pm. That is when we discuss issues affecting our club and community. We also decide where our next rock hunt will be. All other Thursday we have Wire Wrapping class 1pm – 3pm and workshop that runs from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

The members come to  use our equipment and work on their rocks or just come to share and visit. The GCGMS has proudly puts on an annual gem and mineral show every January for the past 60 plus years. This is a fun and exciting event for the club members and the community.  There are vendors, stunning exhibits. fascinating presentations and hands-on programs for children of all ages. We are always looking for new members so if you are interested in joining please click here.
